For 2005, SC Global has a two part role. What has traditionally been SC Global, the Access Grid™ venue for presentations, panels and Birds-of-a-Feather will take place in the SC Global Showcase sessions. A new initiative, SC Desktop will create the opportunity for 'Virtual Attendees' to remotely participate in portions of the Technical Program.
SC Global 05 will showcase high-end networking collaborative technologies. Access Grid technologies have enabled a Gateway of Discovery for geographically dispersed research groups to work together effectively. They communicate, share data and advance their science by pushing the limits of distributed collaboration. As collaborative technologies advance, researchers set their sights on sharing physical as well as high-end computational experiments. Also shared are scarce resources, specialized expertise, equipment, devices and educational resources.
SC Global 05 will reflect and demonstrate a range of human interactions spanning the spectrum of distributed collaboration from artistic through scientific interactions. As in past SC Global programs, the Seattle conference site will be linked to sites and presenters around the world.
SC Global will be open to all conference attendees. In addition, there will be participation from global satellite sites and observer sites. Global satellite sites will offer interactive participation to remote audiences, while observer sites will permit passive viewing.
SC|05 marks the first opportunity to "attend" SC from your desktop or local Access Grid(TM) node. This initiative, known as "SC Desktop", provides streams of the Plenary, Masterworks and the Technical Program via client software based on Access Grid technology. Delegates who attend SC|05 in this virtual manner will be able to see the presentations and ask questions via web-based question management software. Virtual attendance for either a desktop or conference room "node" is offered for a reduced registration fee.
Submission Deadline: April 29, 2005
